Emergency & after-hours service
Emergency electrician, Idaho Falls
Electrical problems don't follow business hours. Scott Lind Electric answers the phone around the clock Monday to Saturday, across Idaho Falls and Ammon, and will do whatever we can to get your home or business safe and running again tonight.
We run a small business ourselves. Nothing is more frustrating than an electrical fault standing between you and opening in the morning — so call, and you'll get a person, not a queue.
Do this right now
- Smell burning or see smoke?
Shut off the breaker feeding that area if you can reach it safely. If there is fire or smoke in the wall, call 911 first. - Water near electrical?
Don't touch the panel or any wet device. Kill power at the main if you can do it from a dry position, then call. - Breaker won't reset?
Try it once. If it trips straight back, leave it off — it is holding back a fault. Don't tape or wedge it. - Then call 208.716.1240
Tell us what you saw, smelled and heard. That detail is usually enough for us to arrive with the right parts.
Call now, or schedule it?
Not every electrical problem is an emergency, and we would rather you knew the difference than paid for an after-hours trip you didn't need. Here is how we triage a call.
| What you're seeing | Why it matters | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Burning smell, smoke or scorch marks | An active heat source inside the wiring or a device | Call immediately |
| Sparks, buzzing or a hot panel | Arcing or a loose connection under load | Call immediately |
| Breaker trips instantly with nothing plugged in | A short or ground fault in the circuit | Call immediately |
| Water in a panel, fixture or outlet | Shock and fire risk while energised | Call immediately |
| Whole building dark, neighbours fine | Your service, main or panel — not the utility | Call immediately |
| Business can't open or trade tomorrow | Downtime cost outruns the after-hours trip | Call tonight |
| One dead outlet or switch | Annoying, not dangerous, if nothing is hot | Schedule same-day |
| A fixture flickering | Usually a lamp, ballast or loose connection | Schedule same-day |
| Adding a circuit or fixture | Planned work, better done in daylight | Book an estimate |
| Whole neighbourhood dark | Utility outage — not an electrician job | Call your utility |
After-hours questions
Do you answer the phone at night?
Yes — we are open 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, and we will tell you honestly whether we can be there tonight or first thing in the morning. If it's dangerous, we treat it as dangerous. We are closed Sunday.
Are you open on Sunday?
No. We are open around the clock Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday. If something is smoking, sparking or wet on a Sunday, treat it as an emergency: shut off the breaker feeding it if you can do so safely, call 911 if there is fire or smoke in a wall, and call us first thing Monday.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Anything hot, smoking, sparking or wet, a breaker that will not hold, a total loss of power to the building, or a fault that stops a business trading. The table above covers the common cases.
Which areas do you cover after hours?
Idaho Falls, Ammon and the surrounding communities within 30 miles — Ucon, Iona, Shelley, Rigby, Ririe and Roberts included — 24 hours a day, Monday to Saturday.
Should I shut off the main breaker?
If you can reach it safely and dryly and something is smoking, sparking or wet — yes, then call. If reaching it means standing in water or touching a hot panel, stay back and call from a safe distance.
If it's hot, wet or sparking — call.
